Illness sidelines Warriors’ Stephen Curry for Friday’s matchup against Nuggets

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will sit out Friday night’s game in Denver due to an illness he contracted after the team’s recent road trip through Milwaukee and Indianapolis. The matchup also marks the Warriors’ NBA Cup opener.

Curry began feeling under the weather before Tuesday’s home game against the Phoenix Suns, where he still managed 28 points in 34 minutes despite visibly battling fatigue and congestion. Afterward, he admitted that his energy “hit empty” during the second half. The team quickly ruled him out for Wednesday’s loss in Sacramento, and he’ll now miss his second consecutive game as he continues to recover.

Head coach Steve Kerr said he exchanged texts with Curry, who reported that his symptoms had worsened. The two-time MVP will remain in San Francisco to rest ahead of Sunday’s game against the Indiana Pacers. Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green are expected to travel to Denver, with Green listed as probable (rib contusion) and Butler questionable (lower back strain). Both missed the previous game but are “hopeful” to return, according to Kerr.
