One of the nation's top-ranked prospects is headed to Bloomington as Sunnyslope High School standout Darius Wabbington announces his commitment to Indiana University.

Indiana basketball has secured a major commitment from five-star prospect Darius Wabbington, a 6-foot-10 center from Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix, Arizona, who has officially announced his decision to join the Hoosiers.

The Class of 2027 standout selected Indiana over Arizona and Illinois, becoming one of the program's most significant recent recruiting additions.

Ranked among the nation's top 15 prospects, Wabbington brings an impressive combination of size, athleticism, scoring ability, and versatility to Indiana's future roster.

A Dominant Force at Sunnyslope High School

Wabbington has established himself as one of Arizona's premier high school basketball players through his performances with Sunnyslope.

During the 2025–26 season, the talented big man averaged 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game, helping lead

Sunnyslope to an outstanding 28–2 record and an Arizona Open Division state championship.

His impact extends beyond traditional post play. Despite standing nearly 6-foot-11, Wabbington possesses the ability to handle the basketball, create opportunities for teammates, and stretch the floor with his outside shooting.

He reportedly shot 52% from the field and 36% from three-point range, demonstrating the offensive versatility that has attracted attention from major college programs.

His combination of physical tools and basketball IQ has made him one of the most intriguing frontcourt prospects in the 2027 recruiting class.

Indiana Wins a Major Recruiting Battle

Landing Wabbington represents a significant victory for Indiana head coach Darian DeVries and his coaching staff.

With multiple high-major programs pursuing the five-star prospect, Indiana successfully positioned itself as his preferred destination.

The Hoosiers' ability to secure his commitment demonstrates their ambition to recruit elite national talent and build a competitive future in the Big Ten Conference.

Wabbington's versatility could make him especially valuable in Indiana's offensive system. Although primarily listed as a center, his ability to operate from the perimeter and contribute as a power forward provides flexibility for the coaching staff.

For Indiana, his commitment adds a highly regarded young player with the potential to develop into an important contributor.

One of the Nation's Top 2027 Prospects

Wabbington's reputation extends well beyond Arizona.

The five-star recruit has received significant national recognition, including a top-10 ranking in ESPN's SCNext rankings and a No. 13 overall ranking in the Rivals Industry Rankings.

He has also earned recognition through USA Basketball, further establishing himself among the country's leading young prospects.

His performances against high-level competition have reinforced his standing as one of the premier big men in the Class of 2027.

At 6-foot-10 with an expanding offensive skill set, Wabbington represents the modern style of basketball player increasingly valued at the collegiate level: a versatile frontcourt athlete capable of contributing on both ends of the floor.
