Kenneth Faried is set to bolster Panathinaikos’ depleted frontcourt as the team finalizes a deal with the veteran forward, according to Eurohoops sources. The Greek powerhouse has reportedly bought out Faried’s contract with Taiwan’s TSG GhostHawks, paving the way for him to join the club through the end of the season.
Nicknamed “The Manimal,” Faried is making his return to Europe after previous stints with Reggio Emilia in Italy and CSKA Moscow in Russia. A first-round pick (22nd overall) by the Denver Nuggets in the 2011 NBA Draft, Faried enjoyed a strong NBA career and was a standout for Team USA at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where he helped capture a gold medal and earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Now 35, Faried brings extensive experience with 478 NBA games and 18 playoff appearances. His arrival comes at a crucial time for Panathinaikos, who are without Mathias Lessort, Richaun Holmes, and Omer Yurtseven due to injuries, leaving Ioannis Kouzeloglou as the only healthy true center on the roster.
